damianzworld asked: John smile behind his computer screen. Sherlock had just basically apologized to him. He never really apologized. John had heard it only a couple times. " I think we'll be fine for another day or two. " John said, as he absently played the chess game on his computer. He wasn't really paying attention to it. He was never one for chess. But it was there, and Solitaire was over played. "Do you want me to search for anything?" He asked as he lost another game in under 2 minutes.

Sherlock didn’t respond. Of course he didn’t. John wasn’t really there to help him with this much; he was there because Sherlock wanted him there. Perhaps to show off to, perhaps just to know that he was sitting in the same room. After a few more minutes, and perhaps another chess loss, he snapped the laptop shut and leaned back in his chair with a sigh. “Suspected drowning. Obviously he was a better swimmer than he let on,” he said, not to John so much as to himself. “No domestic disturbances, finances were in a good enough state, none of the usual reasons to fake a death, and certainly none to fake a death, wait two years, and murder one’s family.” He set his laptop aside and tapped his fingers against his chair, staring across at John, but not really seeing him. “Unless he hadn’t planned on the murder at the time of the ‘drowning.’ But then why fake it in the first place? Or was he faking it? John, what if he didn’t fake his death?” Without waiting for an answer, he was up, pacing the flat. “The drowning might not have been a fake. But then why come back to kill them?”
